BART Oakland Airport Connector

The Oakland Airport Connector (OAC) project involved the development of a new 3.2-mile-long automated people-mover system running mostly on an elevated guideway structure from the existing BART Coliseum Station to the Oakland International Airport (OAK). The project included construction of a new station at each end of the line, and system support facilities, such as maintenance and central control buildings, and power substations.

Services Provided: The Allen Group’s community relations staff primarily worked from the construction field office in close proximity to the project, as well as from BART’s headquarters to ensure the optimal balance between serving community needs and interfacing with BART staff. Community relations staff was available to: address daily impacts (e.g., noise, vibration, dust, traffic), respond to public inquiries and concerns about project progress, develop and disseminate informational materials and work notifications, assist with project site tours, and make routine public presentations. The community relations team also planned and managed all aspects of several special events including a VIP reception and ribbon cutting, and a community celebration to mark the opening of the OAC system.
